What is Internet Protocol (IP)?

Internet protocol address is abbreviated as an IP address. Each device is assigned a numerical label connected to the network for communication. IP is typically known as an internet address or IP number. An IP address acts as an identifier for a specific network.

What are IPv4 and IPv6?

IPv4 and IPv6 are IP addresses that are binary numbers. The major difference is that IPv4 is a 32-bit binary number while IPv6 is a 128-bit binary number address.  IPv6 is the sixth revision to the internet protocol and the successor to IPv4. It functions similarly to IPv4 in that it provides the unique IP addresses necessary for internet-enabled devices to communicate. IPv6 is extremely important for the long term health of the internet.

Which is Faster either IPv4 or IPv6?

IPv4 is slightly faster than IPv6. But, location is a highly influencing factor. The speed differences were infinitesimally small. It differs in a fraction of second, which doesn’t affect much for human browsing.

Use of IPv4 and IPv6

Both are communication via internet protocols that provides an identification and location system for computers on networks and routes traffic across the internet.

Way of Connecting IPv4 and IPv6

  • Click the network and sharing center on your computer.
  • Click local area connections and then click properties to configure network addresses and other information.
  • Click the Networking tab and then, click either internet protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4) or internet protocol version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and then click properties.
